Reading Parks to be Revamped

0

TwoReading parks are in line for a major revamp and local people are being urged to have their say on a range of proposals.

The parks are Christchurch Meadows and Hills Meadows. At Christchurch Meadows the proposals include:
• Providing a café in the pavilion
• A High Ropes Adventure Course catering for a wide range of age groups and physical abilities
• Re-providing mini golf in the form of a high quality adventure golf course or putting green
• Waterside Activity Centre
• The proposed leisure activities would be operated on a pay to participate basis and will complement the free of charge facilities

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge is planned for 2014 providing better sustainable transport links to and from the Station and the Thames Tow Path at Christchurch Meadows.

At Hills Meadow the proposals are to develop permanent boat moorings along the footpath leading to Caversham Lock.

These would provide access to water and electricity for mooring boats and will meet the rising demand for moorings along the River Thames. Also, by encouraging more ‘live aboard’ boaters it will be good for the local economy increase activity, encourage more people to use the area at night time which would deter anti social behaviour.

There will be consultation sessions where people can discuss the plans with council officers. These will take place in Christchurch Meadows between midday and 4pm on 15 and 16 June. The closing date for the consultation is Sunday 30 June.
