Reading Main Roads to be Resurfaced this Summer

As part of its annual Highways Maintenance Programme, Reading Borough Council has agreed a £1.16 investment in major roads and a £446,000 towards smaller residential roads this year.

Last month the Council’s Highways Team began the process of advertising for companies to bid for resurfacing contract. A number of companies are now being evaluated and those that pass the first stage will be invited to tender before a final decision is made on the successful contractor in June / July.

The major roads resurfacing programme will see more than 60,000m2 of carriageway re-laid across a total of 18 different roads which have been indentified as most urgently needing repair. They are:

Rotherfield Way/Southdown Road (Surley Row to Evesham Road Joints)
Oxford Road (Pangbourne Street to Norcot Road)
Caversham Road (Chatham Street to Abattoirs Road
Church St (Prospect Street to Church Road)
Prospect St (Henley Road to Church Street)
Church Road (Darrell Road to St Anne’s Road)
The Forbury (Sections from Market Place to Valpy Street)
Southampton Street (Crown Street to IDR)
Christchurch Gardens (full length)
Bridge Street , Caversham (Richfield Avenue to Church Road)
Oxford Road (Sections from Overdown Road to Borough Boundary)
Kendrick Road full length
