New Transport Gateway For Reading Opens on July 8
0On Monday July 8, bus passengers, rail commuters and pedestrians will be able to see for themselves Reading Borough Council’s transformation of the northern entrance to the new Reading Station.
For the first time buses coming to and from Caversham and north of the Thames will turn off Vastern Road into the new interchange, before stopping directly outside the northern entrance to the station. It means Reading residents will be able to switch seamlessly between buses and trains as part of their daily commute. Rail passengers will have direct and easy access to platforms and trains via the new interchange, which links with the new overbridge at Reading Station.
Bus passengers coming from the north of Reading can also alight at the new interchange and then make use of the new level access subway, which runs under the station, for easy access to town centre shops.
The interchange will include a large taxi rank and new street furniture, including new lighting and benches. Facilities for cyclists to leave their bikes before continuing their journey by train will also be added at a later stage. July 8 is also the date the new pedestrian crossing facilities along Vastern Road become operational.
